It might not be impressive standing next to the large scale art creations at Burning Man, but this project is immeasurably special to me. I put my heart into it’s symbolic design and installation. I have grown to internalize many significant things in my life in two ways: through the experience itself and by capturing it on film. These images tell the story of making and raising my project. It is now in my garden- a place of peace and beauty. Many thanks to Brigette Nelson, my husband James Cole, and all who helped in bringing this tribute to life.
My brother August is a fallen hero. He had two tattoos. A Chinese character placed on each of his shoulder blades. When translated into English, mean “protector” and “warrior”. These two words vividly describe Augie, which is why I chose to incorporate them into my art piece. The two symbols represent who he was on earth. The circular shape and movement (as a mobile) has no end, which represents where he is now and for all eternity.
